I'm tired of the fear mongering by the Bush administration. I live on Long Island and I do not live in fear of another attack. To those who are afraid to rebuild the twin towers, I say crawl in a six foot hole. As for me, I will not change the way I live because something may or maynot happen.

As a military vet and an American I support the rebuilding of the WTC.
Just as a matter of defiance against the terrorists (the "in your face, you will not defeat us" principle) we were from the beginning and are obligated still today to rebuild them, perhaps even bigger than they were before.
The current proposal is a surrender to the terrorists, a capitulation to them. Personally it makes me sick to see it!
Were is Americas bravado???
Were is the defiance against evil?

The Twin Towers should be rebuilt EXACTLY as before -- or taller. The fact that they were destroyed by acts of terrorism means that they have become a symbol for what needs be done, not what expedience allows.

I grew up in Brooklyn and had the best view of The Towers. The Towers must go back up or the terrorists win. When I was little and had a nightmare I would run to the window and see the Towers and know everthing was OK. Now when I go back it's sad.

Bring them back!! Don't let the terrorist win and dictate what we can and cannot build here. It's our country, our state, our city. Let's go Pataki. Let's go Bloomberg. Let's go Corzine. Stop ignoring us!!

I went through the WTC PATH station every day for over 15 years. My company celebrated our X-mas party at Windows on the World in Dec 2000. There were no X-mas celebrations there in 2001. The towers must be re-built!

Let's rebuild. It will hopefully help in giving us all a sense of things returning to normal even though we know things will never be the same. Those towers belonged to all of us.

We absolutely have to rebuild the Towers: the most powerful memorial and the most powerful statement we can possibly make of our determination to defeat and uphold the banner of freedom for the world.

With all respect to the people who have lost someone. The politians are only using greed and their own agenda's rebuilding ground zero. The towers going up are the only way to stand up to these terrorists.

If you have already signed and would like to change categories, please re-submit your signature, using the same e-mail address. As soon as your new signature is confirmed via e-mail, the old one will be deleted. Note that you will have to retype your comment, if you left one. This method could also be used to correct typos made in a previous comment.

Please Note: This petition is meant to provide a forum for this subject alone. It is a petition, not a bulletin board. We will not sanitize controversial remarks if the comments are primarily in support of the petition’s purpose. But off-topic remarks are subject to removal on a case-by-case basis to keep the focus where it belongs. Thank you.

Important Mention: Those who read back over the comments will find that from time to time we have highlighted excerpts to help those who only have time to skim a page get a sense of what people are thinking and feeling. We rarely do that now and it was never a methodical effort, but just a window on public opinion regarding this monumentally important issue. The important thing to know is that no comment matters more than any other. Each one is valued and helps make the case that the public was sidelined on something that mattered so much.

TTA Note: Occasionally a current signature will disappear. When that happens it is because someone who has already signed the petition signs a second time and when the second signature is validated the two are automatically merged and appear in the original chronology. If someone leaves a second signature and comment, it automatically overwrites the earlier placement when the validation link is activated. If it isn’t activated, or it is made using a different email address, there will be duplicate signatures. When we recognize that someone has signed before, we will delete the earlier entry and, if it was verified, verify the new one, since the clear intention is to make the new comment visible. We may decide to manually include the earlier comment at the end of the current message.

Regarding anonymous signatures: Taking a stand using one’s full name is always preferred, but when a name is withheld, the signature and sentiments are still of value. In every case, we have an email address that corresponds with the entry and is kept private.

* Indicates that the signer has not yet activated the validation link, often due to spamblocking software. They are included out of respect for the sincerity of the comments.
