The world was robbed of the 21st-century Twin Towers most of us always wanted.

When I was a kid and got knocked down in a fight, every time I got back up again, the concern on the face of my opponent was clearly visible. Expecting to have won the fight, he became somewhat unnerved every time I got back up to look him in the eye. There were a few times when I got my butt kicked but I never lost a fight.

It's time to send the same message to our opponents in this war. Knock us down and we will get right back up again to look you straight in the eye!

I agree that the Twin Towers should be rebuilt as they were (only stronger) to show those who are out to kill us, that though they may kill some of us, they cannot kill our spirit.

The Statue of Liberty is the "Welcome" to our country, but the Twin Towers is the Inspiration. Rebuilding them is the ONLY WAY to show other countries that the USA is the best country in the world. Stop being stupid and rebuild them exactly the same.

Rebuilding as it was and maybe even a bit taller is the only response that is acceptable to show the world that the United States does not cower to terrorism.

It's outrageous that the Twin Towers are not being rebuilt! I personally prefer Donald Trump's plan. The towers can be built on different footprints and with a suitable memorial to those that died on 9/11/2001, using the latest technology for safety and security. They can also each be built at least 1 story taller, to symbolize our triumph over terrorism. Politicians should ALWAYS be our servants, rather than our masters.

Soon it will have been six years since the jihadists struck the continental United States. The Freedom Tower design is a ridiculous abdication of our collective duty to honor the losses and sacrifices we saw on that clear September day. Rebuild the towers - each a foot taller. Every day that Ground Zero remains an empty, open wound is a day that the terrorists draw strength from our fecklessness. The time has come for us to remedy this. Rebuild the towers!

Indeed, the Twin Towers were, and are iconic. In a lot of ways, they are part of America, our America, that will not soon be replaced, but will stand back up when knocked down. Let us not be 'reborn' as something different, but come back as something proud and proven, something more like the best nation in the world.

Give us back our skyline. Give our towers. New York City is the greatest city in the history of the world....including anciet Rome, and all that came after. Don't let the dream of rebuilding die. On September 11, 2001 we all became New Yorkers.

Please Note: This petition is meant to provide a forum for this subject alone. It is a petition, not a bulletin board. We will not sanitize controversial remarks if the comments are primarily in support of the petition’s purpose. But off-topic remarks are subject to removal on a case-by-case basis to keep the focus where it belongs. Thank you.

Important Mention: Those who read back over the comments will find that from time to time we have highlighted excerpts to help those who only have time to skim a page get a sense of what people are thinking and feeling. We rarely do that now and it was never a methodical effort, but just a window on public opinion regarding this monumentally important issue. The important thing to know is that no comment matters more than any other. Each one is valued and helps make the case that the public was sidelined on something that mattered so much.

TTA Note: Occasionally a current signature will disappear. When that happens it is because someone who has already signed the petition signs a second time and when the second signature is validated the two are automatically merged and appear in the original chronology. If someone leaves a second signature and comment, it automatically overwrites the earlier placement when the validation link is activated. If it isn’t activated, or it is made using a different email address, there will be duplicate signatures. When we recognize that someone has signed before, we will delete the earlier entry and, if it was verified, verify the new one, since the clear intention is to make the new comment visible. We may decide to manually include the earlier comment at the end of the current message.

Regarding anonymous signatures: Taking a stand using one’s full name is always preferred, but when a name is withheld, the signature and sentiments are still of value. In every case, we have an email address that corresponds with the entry and is kept private.

* Indicates that the signer has not yet activated the validation link, often due to spamblocking software. They are included out of respect for the sincerity of the comments.
