The world was robbed of the 21st-century Twin Towers most of us always wanted.
Click above for more comments that rebuke the cynicism that tried to replace the Twin Towers and failed.
Please Note: This petition is meant to provide a forum for this subject alone. It is a petition, not a bulletin board. We will not sanitize controversial remarks if the comments are primarily in support of the petition’s purpose. But off-topic remarks are subject to removal on a case-by-case basis to keep the focus where it belongs. Thank you.
Important Mention: Those who read back over the comments will find that from time to time we have highlighted excerpts to help those who only have time to skim a page get a sense of what people are thinking and feeling. We rarely do that now and it was never a methodical effort, but just a window on public opinion regarding this monumentally important issue. The important thing to know is that no comment matters more than any other. Each one is valued and helps make the case that the public was sidelined on something that mattered so much.
TTA Note: Occasionally a current signature will disappear. When that happens it is because someone who has already signed the petition signs a second time and when the second signature is validated the two are automatically merged and appear in the original chronology. If someone leaves a second signature and comment, it automatically overwrites the earlier placement when the validation link is activated. If it isn’t activated, or it is made using a different email address, there will be duplicate signatures. When we recognize that someone has signed before, we will delete the earlier entry and, if it was verified, verify the new one, since the clear intention is to make the new comment visible. We may decide to manually include the earlier comment at the end of the current message.
Regarding anonymous signatures: Taking a stand using one’s full name is always preferred, but when a name is withheld, the signature and sentiments are still of value. In every case, we have an email address that corresponds with the entry and is kept private.
* Indicates that the signer has not yet activated the validation link, often due to spamblocking software. They are included out of respect for the sincerity of the comments.
I live in Canada and I've always wanted to live in New York later in life, I wish they would rebuild the Twin Towers. I would love to go there and stand on top of the Towers and think of those who lost their life on 9/11.
I definitely support the wtc being rebuilt. The Freedom tower is nice, but it just doesn't have the "wow" factor like the wtc did. Plus it would be a message to all the terrorists that we can pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and rebuild 10 times better. I say rebuild the towers bigger than they were to start. The NY skyline just isn't the same without the Twin Towers, it was a signature landmark, and the freedom tower doesn't stand up to them.
I am traveling to New York next week and I'm so sad and disppointed that I didn't get to see the Twin Towers for real. Nothing would make me happier to see them resurrected - it would be the ultimate 'f*ck you' to the inbreeds who took part in and celebrated the original terrible act of terrorism. The Freedom Tower being built would be an insult - it is unattractive and resembles nothing to what the World Trade Centre once was. Let's recreate the towers. Let's make it New York again.
It's the "broken windows" principle on a large scale. We fixed the Pentagon pretty quickly, didn't we.
How can there be a memorial for a building that does not look like the building to be remembered? Please give back to us what we miss so much.
I believe that this would be the wish of those who left us, if they had a single minute to go back to this place.... how could they ever accept something else? What would they think if they saw NY without WTC?
There is nothing more respectful than rebuilding these towers. Nothing else would bring back our lost friends closer to our hearts.
I am a native NYer and i was there at 911 and I will never forget the sight of thousands of NYers walking up park ave looking stunned and dazed, a real 3rd world sight we are Americans and NYers and we are tough, and gritty, we need to rebuild the towers and not cower we need to send a message loud and clear that we are not afraid but rather we are one in our resistance to tyranny and fear, we are all one city and nation unafraid and undaunted as we face an islamic tyranny not one of choice
Emotional intensities aside (not to lessen the importance of personal expression) our integrity as a nation in the position we have in and to the world requires us to do everything we can to rebuild those towers. We are not a cowardly people.
2001 the day that nobody will forget so do i
9/11 2001 was the day that i go on holyday to new york at 19.00 ours, but 15.00 ours i get that terible news a stupid radical moslim crash whit a plane in my favorit buildings, i was so angry al my live i dream about to stand on the top of the twintowers i know that i never see the twin towers whit my own eyes and it still hurts that i can never do that.
my wish is that one day in my live i will see them with my own eyes. now we whait till 2011
These towers should have been built by now! Those middle easterners think we'll never get them built and are laughing - saying it serves the infedels right!
So......Let's get them up stronger and taller than before - and then ask God's protection for the people who work within them.
When i move over to America the Twin Towers will be a site to warm my heart
Re-built the twin towers again would be really good, in memory of the 11/09!
I am trying to see that since the twin towers was a good memorable place that it should be rebuilt
rebuild them, one story taller than before. show the world how strong we are!
REBUILD THE FRICKEN TOWERS OR I'LL HURT SOMEONE! 😛
911 was very sad, and hopefully the twin towers will be re-built. ;]
I think we should build the twin towers. We need to rebuild it to show we have strength and to show respect to the people involved. It'll be hard, but we can do it if we try.
We should rebuild the Twin Towers to show that we are strong and we will not crumble...no matter what...
I think that the US should rebuild the twin towers; for memorial purposes also. It will be a step foward for the US. We can say that we aren't going to let this stop us.
it would be great if the TT where re-built.
I think America should so some respect by rebuilding the towers in dedication to the ones who lost their lives and to show that America can overcome our losses and grieving.
I think it is a great idea to rebuild the Twin Towers. If we rebuild the Towers then we are showing that we are trying to rebuild our country too. We are also proving to other countries that we will stop at nothing, I think if we rebuild the Towers would be completing our nation. Cause one of my dreams was to visit the Twin Towers one day, and I had that dream stolen from me, and i dont think thats fair. If nothing else then just rebuild it in the memory of all the people who lost their lives!!!!
It was a crazy, and sorrow-filled day. And ever since, the city's been different. Let's rebuild.
PLEASE..
WE NEED THIS TO HAPPEN...
IN OUR GENERATION..
WE CANT WAIT TOO LONG
Rebuild the Twin Towers!!!!! People need jobs!!!
: )
rebuild the towers for the sake of our generations to come. as a memorial for those who have passed and those who are still to come.
Please rebuild
Whoop Whoop Make new york whole again : )
The Twin Towers were a beautiful landmark. If they were rebuilt, it would proove that anything can be done. Rebuilding the towers would be like us saying, "Nothing can keep us down."
I think it'd be best to rebuild it.
this would mean a lot to a lot of people x peace x
Im 15 I Never Got To See The Twin Towers In person I wish I could
The towers were an important part of the most recognized skyline in the world. They were unique and we should not accept any substitutes.
I agree with Dave Roset, rebuild them just as they were with one extra floor each. On those extra floors put an Army base with radar guided gatling guns. The Freedom Tower is perhaps the ugliest building I have ever seen.
I am a native born New Yorker living in Texas. When the towers went down it broke everyones hearts, the best way to stick it to the shit that cowardly attacked the symbol of american strength and ingenuity would be to build the towers only bigger.Anything else to me is a defeat plain and simple..
The twin towers were too beautiful not to rebuild.
The Twin Towers are an icon of America. They represent the opportunity and prosperity that much of the world admires (or even envys.) Build the Towers back just as they were + 1 more floor! (as well as a memorial in the courtyard.)
