The world was robbed of the 21st-century Twin Towers most of us always wanted.

To not rebuild the Towers only shows that we lost the "war on terror" on the morning of September 11, 2001. Those Towers were America, that's why they were the targets of the attack. The money spent to allow more Americans to die in Iraq can better be spent on newer, stronger, prouder Towers. America's strength is in her industry, rebuilding the Towers demonstrates that strength.

I visited the Towers twice. Once in '97 and again in late August 2001. In August I attended a free concert held at he WTC and listened to the great music of John Gorka. The concert was held at the base of the North Tower and I will never forget that day. Rebuilding would be a real jab in the eye of people who dislike the United States of America. And now that they are gone, people really miss them.
At least I got the chance to get the view from the top for Christmas back in 1997.

Change, wasn't that the terrorists objective? We allow them to achieve that goal, by putting a different structure in one of America's most symbolic places. Put back the original towers with a little more height, updated security structure and a little ole' red/white/blue colors clearly seen from afar. There are many who have paid a hard price, even today, for true American principles. When you get kicked off the horse and should get right back on, no one said anything about changing the horse.

The terrorists knocked down the towers. REBUILDING them EXACTLY as they were would be a slap in the Terrorists' collective faces. It would be a statement, telling them that no matter what they do, they cannot stop us...EVER.

NOTHING less than re-building the towers is acceptable. Personally I believe that one more floor should be added to each tower as an appropriate gesture to those animals who did this. If I were able, I would have the antenna on the one tower actually be 5, with the middle one extended and facing Saudi Arabia. Please don't allow this feeble tower to be built. It only validates the destruction of the towers in the eyes of those murderers.

I am a born and true AMERICAN. I believe the only way to show that we are not afraid and that we still stand strong is to rebuild the twin towers. Alot of New Yorkers said that by rebuilding them back will bring back bad memories everytime they pass by them but, if they build a memorial site isn't that going to bring even more memories when you see all the names of the people that died.If the towers are not rebuilt New York is not the same without them.

I moved to Battery Park City from Los Angeles after 9/11 just so that I could be a part of the rebuilding after a devastation, even if it were to buy a bottle of water from the local businesses. I stayed there for 4 years only to have nothing built, (except for WT #7, which belongs to leaseholder). I think we should build the towers back and even a third one too! Do it even better than before, the TRUE American way! Let's see even a better skyline than before!

Don't insult the legacy of the original Twin Towers with this weak, half-baked scheme that is being foisted on New York. Restore the skyline to the way it should have looked all along. Not restoring the Twin Towers shows our enemies that we can be cowed and manipulated and pushed towards defeatism. Don't do it! Make NYC look like NYC again!

I, as my brothers, both recent retirees of the Port Authority, believe that raising the WTC as it was before exemplies our statement of a true democracy: anything less is a 'slap in the face' to all true Americans and a victory for anti-Americans.

All politicians need to stop thinking of 'compromise and political correctiveness': they need to remember what our country was established on/for. Our ancestors came here and accepted the American culture. Those entering today must accept it too.

What can i say... The Twin Towers needs to be rebuilt, its a part of America and Americas history, I live in Australia and even i miss the Twin Towers, Like most of you have stated, building a memorial instead of rebuilding is just saying, hey, you won. Though a memorial is needed to honor those who's lives were taken without a second thought. We can honor the fallen and rebuild the Twin Towers cant we?

I think we should re-build the Towers, I say use the 9th & 11th floor to display the names and pictures of everyone who lost their life, those who survived and were involved in anyway. That would be a great way to make sure no one is forgotten.

I agree that we need to rebuild the twin towers in New York to help with the healing and devistation that was brought to our country on 9-11. By rebuilding the same as the ones that stood tall I believe it would show we stand tall and are not afraid. God Bless America and all of our troops fighting & protecting our country. We will never forget the victims & heros of 9-11 and their families no matter what is built at ground zero.

I cannot agree more with this petition. We are only cowering to the enemies by building a memorial, not to say a memorial for the families isn't needed. We need to rebuild! That's what America is all about!

To re-build shows we are not and will not be intimidated. Re-building is the best way to show our faith, resolve and determination. It would make a firm statement of our feelings about and belief in what our country was founded on. Definitely they need to be re-built, but add one floor to serve as the memorial area.

Please Note: This petition is meant to provide a forum for this subject alone. It is a petition, not a bulletin board. We will not sanitize controversial remarks if the comments are primarily in support of the petition’s purpose. But off-topic remarks are subject to removal on a case-by-case basis to keep the focus where it belongs. Thank you.

Important Mention: Those who read back over the comments will find that from time to time we have highlighted excerpts to help those who only have time to skim a page get a sense of what people are thinking and feeling. We rarely do that now and it was never a methodical effort, but just a window on public opinion regarding this monumentally important issue. The important thing to know is that no comment matters more than any other. Each one is valued and helps make the case that the public was sidelined on something that mattered so much.

TTA Note: Occasionally a current signature will disappear. When that happens it is because someone who has already signed the petition signs a second time and when the second signature is validated the two are automatically merged and appear in the original chronology. If someone leaves a second signature and comment, it automatically overwrites the earlier placement when the validation link is activated. If it isn’t activated, or it is made using a different email address, there will be duplicate signatures. When we recognize that someone has signed before, we will delete the earlier entry and, if it was verified, verify the new one, since the clear intention is to make the new comment visible. We may decide to manually include the earlier comment at the end of the current message.

Regarding anonymous signatures: Taking a stand using one’s full name is always preferred, but when a name is withheld, the signature and sentiments are still of value. In every case, we have an email address that corresponds with the entry and is kept private.

* Indicates that the signer has not yet activated the validation link, often due to spamblocking software. They are included out of respect for the sincerity of the comments.
