The only lasting memorial to the victims of 9/11 - and to restore a symbol of who we are as a free nation - would be to rebuild the twin towers even stronger than they were before.

The Twin Towers should be restored to their former glory almost like the way that they were back in 1973 when the project completed. C'mon, even Donald Trump dislikes the current building plans. That alone should mean something needs to be changed.

Yes! Restore the Manhatten skyline exactly as it was
pre 9/11. What greater testament to American resilience than to rebuild the twin towers exactly as they were.

Build the towers just as they were only taller and station a couple of Marines on the observation deck of one of them with Stinger missles. Make sure they face Mecca while you're at it.

God Bless the US our President, warfighters, firefighters, EMS and police officers.

Please rebuild the towers. They were an American icon. When they were lost I felt as if a part of me was lost as well. The new design just does not cut it. Only by replacing the towers will we be even more united against the enemy again. Nothing can look as beautiful as the Twin Towers.

The Twin Towers were a symbol, not only of New York, but of America, they embodied some of the tenants of our nation. They should be rebuilt bigger and stronger then they were to show the world that we are still here and that we are not, were not and will never be afraid.

The isalmo facists are always carping about their holy sites being desecrated by the mere existence us ‘infidels’. Well to me, the Twin Towers were as an important a symbol of the city I love as any mosque is to those who seek to destroy Western Civilization. Building something other than the Twin Towers in Lower Manhattan is to say to the terrorists- You Won!

As an architecture student, I was not fond of the design. However that is not the point. From the moment I watched them fall, I believed they should be rebuilt to the exact same specifications as the originals. I still feel that way.

Put the towers back! That other plan is urban blight. The only right thing to do is return the skyline we ALL grew up with. The Freedom tower has nothing to do with greatness or freedom. It only serves to prove our transition from a world power to a bunch of cowards.

I'm a former NJ resident. I still have some family up there and my oldest daughter now lives back there. I now live in Reston, VA, which is 25 miles outside of Washington, DC. Watched the F-16s fly overhead afterwards to protect us. When I graduated from high school in 1970 I obtained a job working in New York right down the street from where they built the original towers. What a site it was to see them going up in the air!!! Build them as they were! They were beautiful!!!

I think we should rebuild the towers and add a floor. Lets show the terrorists that America's spirit was not diminished. Now that were up to speed with armed pilots and better security, there's no fear of a future incident.

The towers should absolutely be rebuilt. It would show America's resolve in the face of terrorism. Building a 78 story Freedom Tower only shows that we now live in fear.

As a native New Yorker, rebuilding the Towers would serve as an act of defiance and strength against the terrorists who took them down on that day. In building the Freedom Tower, those of us who knew and saw the Twin Towers everyday will still feel the gaping hole that lingers in our minds and hearts of the buildings that made New York the greatest city in the world.

Forget about this freedom tower or the reflection puddles, let's rebuild them, bring the skyline back the way it was meant to be. Take the first floor of each tower and have an awesome memorial set up. Not building these towers leaves us defeated. These towers where often looked at as two ugly square bldgs. but thier beauty was not fully appreciated until they were gone. Please bring them back as they where before only strongly, and we as a country will be stronger for that. Thank You, God Bless.

If you have already signed and would like to change categories, please re-submit your signature, using the same e-mail address. As soon as your new signature is confirmed via e-mail, the old one will be deleted. Note that you will have to retype your comment, if you left one. This method could also be used to correct typos made in a previous comment.

Please Note: This petition is meant to provide a forum for this subject alone. It is a petition, not a bulletin board. We will not sanitize controversial remarks if the comments are primarily in support of the petition’s purpose. But off-topic remarks are subject to removal on a case-by-case basis to keep the focus where it belongs. Thank you.

Important Mention: Those who read back over the comments will find that from time to time we have highlighted excerpts to help those who only have time to skim a page get a sense of what people are thinking and feeling. We rarely do that now and it was never a methodical effort, but just a window on public opinion regarding this monumentally important issue. The important thing to know is that no comment matters more than any other. Each one is valued and helps make the case that the public was sidelined on something that mattered so much.

TTA Note: Occasionally a current signature will disappear. When that happens it is because someone who has already signed the petition signs a second time and when the second signature is validated the two are automatically merged and appear in the original chronology. If someone leaves a second signature and comment, it automatically overwrites the earlier placement when the validation link is activated. If it isn’t activated, or it is made using a different email address, there will be duplicate signatures. When we recognize that someone has signed before, we will delete the earlier entry and, if it was verified, verify the new one, since the clear intention is to make the new comment visible. We may decide to manually include the earlier comment at the end of the current message.

Regarding anonymous signatures: Taking a stand using one’s full name is always preferred, but when a name is withheld, the signature and sentiments are still of value. In every case, we have an email address that corresponds with the entry and is kept private.

* Indicates that the signer has not yet activated the validation link, often due to spamblocking software. They are included out of respect for the sincerity of the comments.
