The world was robbed of the 21st-century Twin Towers most of us always wanted.

I most assuredly support no other action thank rebuilding the Twin Towers as they were before. I cannot tell you how simple movies like "Godzilla" and "Independence Day" move me whenever I see the Towers in them.
They were and are an essential piece of New York City, and no American will feel truly whole with out them.
Never in the history of this nation have we surrendered to another nation or enemy ON OUR SOIL! If the World Trade Center towers are not rebuilt, that is what we'd be doing, just as Spain caved to terrorists after the 3/11 train bombings.
Just add a Phalanx Close In Weapon System on the east and west corners of both buildings.
Make each lobby in the North and South towers a memorial for the people killed in the original of each tower. Aircrew, passengers, workers, and the Bravest and Finest.
We must deny our enemies any victory.

5 years ago right after September 11, I had the chance to come to New York and study there in Plattsburgh State University of New York. When for the first time I arrived in Manhattan I could feel the absence of Twin Towers, I felt sad and had tears in my eyes. I used to have a poster of NYC, showed Brooklyn Bridge and the magnificent twin towers behind the B Bridge. For me, if I lose something, I like to search and find the same old item, because it brings memories back, and [I don't buy something else if I can replace what I lost.]

The solution is so simple. You replace what was lost, and make it better.

I saw the towers come down when I was 14. and since then I've seen the empty NY skyline as absolutely shameful.

I have heard no one who prefers the short, ugly buildings currently proposed. As a citizen of Oklahoma, I know what it is like to have a terrorist-attacked tower replaced by a useless, silly-looking outdoor memorial (with utmost respect to the Murrah building victims). Please, rebuild... one floor taller. The impact floors on each tower could be made into memorials, one educating and one solemn. Make me want to visit them, as I didn't get to do before their destruction. 09 September 2006

I believe that the best way for our nation to heal - is to rebuild the towers that hate brought down. The terriost hate everything about America, we need to be stronger than we were that day and build the towers back in the memory of all those that were lost that day. Everyone that went into those buildings, loved them and felt so proud to have been a part of them. I truly hope that the buildings are built back.

I live in Georgia. In 1999 I visited cousins in Brooklyn for the 1st time. The towers were visible from their windows. An old friend took a day off to join me on the plaza. We took the tour of the rooftop, and later took photos of lower Manhattan from Liberty Island. We said goodbye at the subway under the towers as he headed back to New Jersey. Rebuilding the towers as they were, sends a clear message that America--and New York--will never tolerate acts of terrorism on our soil.</strong Thank you.

I would like to see New York become the city I remember. Before the cowards who sucker punched us. I like Donald Trump's version of re-build the towers one floor higher.
I also would like to dismantle the UN and free up prime NYC waterfront property. Re-locate the diplomats to new digs at the new World Trade Center. What better place for them to work from? The top floors of the new trade centers should contain any memorials. Also the replacement of the towers would be fitting tribute to all.

Right from the start, it's always been my sentiment to rebuild the towers. Aside from any structural improvements, they should rise again in all their former magnificence and presence. Anything else will convey weakness on our part.

The only right thing to do is to rebuild the the Twin Towers. That would be the best memorial to the victims of 9/11 who died in World Trade Centers. Anything less would be a tragedy and a victory for the Islamic Fascist across the world. It would show the world and more importantly the Islamic Extremist that America will never cower and that the American spirt will never die.

The twin towers were so simple in design and yet so magestic and beautiful. They stood so proudly at the gateway to our country, declaring to the world that we are a nation of freedom and free enterprise and ingenuity. Saying to the world that we are a nation of workers. We love to work and we celebrate our accomplishments with our beautiful skylines. We need to declare to the world that we will not be defeated and we will never stop celebrating who we are.

If you be the democratic beacon to the world, then WHY are your businessmen saying "ye shall have our Freedom Tower whether ye like it or not"? Why will you not put it to the vote, with REBUILDING your Great Twins as one of the options? Alas, for their wonder that this corporate arrogance seems to say is FOREVER gone! For what we used to think America was about, REBUILD the twins, only bigger and better. Lives cannot be brought back, but what the dead worked for and took pride in - can. Rebuild!

Rebuild the WTC and give NYC back its two front teeth! They should look the same on the outside but be built to the best safety standards that modern technology can provide on the inside. Not to mention the addition of some form of escape system better than a smoke-filled stairwell. After all, the airliner and car-bomb tricks won't work twice. The entire complex would be the best memorial possible: a sign that we will not be defeated.

I was born on July 4th 1985. I am one who believes strongly in Freedom and Independence. And, not to bow down before anyone who threatens you. Fight or Flight- I'd rather stand my ground and Fight. Then to bow down and let them take over. I want the Twin Towers rebuilt as they were before the attack. DON'T GIVE THE TERRORIST WHAT THEY WANT!!! Put the New York skyline back the way it was!

The "Freedom Tower" and the proposed surrounding eyesores will be the laughingstock of New York if they're built. Build the Twin Towers again, but build them even taller, stronger, and visually bolder than they were before. In that way, they'll represent the true spirit of America. And why not find an American architect to do the job? Surely those firms in London and Japan aren't the only ones capable of designing a skyscraper.

I agree 100% that the only thing that should go back on that spot are original design of the lost towers. Nothing else will work in that spot. Don't let progress in construction destroy the beautiful skyline that we had. We owe it to the many lost to give them back what was there.

I am so with you on rebuilding the Twin Towers because the design they want to use now looks like a hypodermic needle, which would remind people of a drug users. I hope your idea wins out...Good Luck!

Enough fretting and bellyaching. We are Americans, Let's show our resolve and defiance to the terorists as we show our pride and respect for those lost by honoring them with a better and taller pair of towers. We are strong not faint of heart. I do not want to be embarrassed when I visit the site, I want to stand tall and be able to say that we have overcome and continue to press forward.

Rebuilding the Twin Towers should be a priority. It will send a message to the enemies of the United States and the World at large, that we will not be bent or cowtowed or frightened by anyone, country or foreign entity. Rebuilding the Towers will be a sign of our resilience to the World. The rebuilding will be the greatest tribute and memorial to those that lost their lives. It must be done.

No living person will ever get over 9/11, BUT, if we get OUR TOWERS BACK, we will at least be able to GO ON! I did not lose anyone I knew on 9/11. However, I, and MANY MANY people (worldwide) lost so much. I still think of it, DAILY, when I see a jet fly over my skyline. ETC.

I fear,in my heart, that WE, meaning "OUR CAUSE" will lose. An absurd "thing" might be erected.

WE NEED OUR TOWERS BACK! I Hope our VOICES WILL BE HEARD! We need to BOMBARD THE MEDIA with our pleas!

Please Note: This petition is meant to provide a forum for this subject alone. It is a petition, not a bulletin board. We will not sanitize controversial remarks if the comments are primarily in support of the petition’s purpose. But off-topic remarks are subject to removal on a case-by-case basis to keep the focus where it belongs. Thank you.

Important Mention: Those who read back over the comments will find that from time to time we have highlighted excerpts to help those who only have time to skim a page get a sense of what people are thinking and feeling. We rarely do that now and it was never a methodical effort, but just a window on public opinion regarding this monumentally important issue. The important thing to know is that no comment matters more than any other. Each one is valued and helps make the case that the public was sidelined on something that mattered so much.

TTA Note: Occasionally a current signature will disappear. When that happens it is because someone who has already signed the petition signs a second time and when the second signature is validated the two are automatically merged and appear in the original chronology. If someone leaves a second signature and comment, it automatically overwrites the earlier placement when the validation link is activated. If it isn’t activated, or it is made using a different email address, there will be duplicate signatures. When we recognize that someone has signed before, we will delete the earlier entry and, if it was verified, verify the new one, since the clear intention is to make the new comment visible. We may decide to manually include the earlier comment at the end of the current message.

Regarding anonymous signatures: Taking a stand using one’s full name is always preferred, but when a name is withheld, the signature and sentiments are still of value. In every case, we have an email address that corresponds with the entry and is kept private.

* Indicates that the signer has not yet activated the validation link, often due to spamblocking software. They are included out of respect for the sincerity of the comments.
