The world was robbed of the 21st-century Twin Towers most of us always wanted.

The New York City skyline without our Twin Towers is like and old woman who is missing her front teeth. Every time I see a movie or TV show with the NYC skyline in it, I stop to look to see if I can get one more glimpse of the Twin Towers "before." The post-9/11 programs make me feel empty seeing they are not there. I grieve and still do for the lost souls that day, for their families and friends, for their coworkers who survived. Rebuild our towers and you will restore more than just two buildings.

Rebuilding the trade center as it was will be a Victory for America. The so called Freedom tower is Defeat!!! If the Libs won't let us win in Iraq, at least let us win here at home.

When the towers fell, I wondered how long it would be before bigger and stronger ones were rebuilt. It made me sick when I saw the cowardly replacement for the Twin Towers. My only suggestion is to put a giant "middle finger" one the new towers and make sure it is aimed towards the Middle East.
Thank you for your efforts.

The towers should absolutely be rebuilt. It would show America's resolve in the face of terrorism. Building a 78 story Freedom Tower only shows that we now live in fear.

“I would give the greatest sunset in the world for one sight of New York’s skyline. The sky over New York and the will of man made visible. I feel that if a war came to threaten this, I would like to throw myself into space, over the city, and protect these buildings with my body.”

The audacity of anyone to even consider building anything else in that space is sickening. The only thing that should go there should be exact and matching towers of The World Trade Center, exactly as Minoru Yamasaki envisioned, designed and built them.

ANYTHING ELSE IS LESS. And THAT is NOT acceptable.

Screw these zealots and their jihad. REBUILD OUR TOWERS AS THEY WERE!

New York deserves more than just one Freedom tower. Although rebuilding the exact same towers doesn't seem like a good idea to me, building two freedom towers is what new york needs.

I think one of the best ways to remind the people how great the towers were, is to let them know the story of the WTC Architect, Menuro Yamasaki. His story of struggle and ultimately success is one of the most prominent tales in our great American History and Culture. If people know his life, they will want the WTC back. And they would be proud that such a human being ever was born.

I always thought that the original Twin Towers showed New York City's strength and power as an economic capital of the world. On ocassions, I had business meetings there and would always eat lunch at the Windows of the World restaurant and enjoyed fantastic views of the city. I believe the Twin Towers should be rebuilt exactly as they were before 9/11, except make the structures safer. I look forward to seeing them built.

I was a skyscraper fan since I was a little kid, on 9-11, I was in class when I heard that a plane had crashed into one of the towers, then into the other one. Never in my wildest immagination did I think the towers would collapse. When I saw the towers come down it was as if someone took a dagger and put it through my heart.
We, the people of America need to get together and put pressure on the politicans and Silverstein so they will do what's right, what we all want.

I am only 14 and live in Stamford, CT. I have fond memories of the Twin Towers and always thought they were the most beautiful buildings in New York. I was shocked, like everyone else about the events of 9/11. I lost my favorite buildings. From that day on, I knew they had to be rebuilt. The Freedom Tower is ugly and must not be built! If it's built, it will showcase our failure. Let's go with Trump's idea and show the terrorists that the pheonix will rise from the ashes and they have lost!!!

In WW II, when the enemy sank our aircraft carriers, we built new ones, and named them after the ones we lost. I don't know if this was a matter of defiance, or to confuse the enemy, but it was a good idea. Rebuild the Towers.

The Freedom tower is not the right thing to build. We should Re-build the towers bigger and better than they were before. By building the freedom tower, we have given into fears of terrorism, and we may as well live with our tales between our legs for the rest of our lives. i thought we were americans, since when do we give into them? This is the wrong idea, we must rebuild them and show that we as americans can band together and display our ingenuity and fearless attitudes

I am a little confused as to why there seems to be so much controversy over the design of the new World Trade Center, and why it is taking so long. I like all other Americans became a New Yorker on 9/11. I think we should rebuild the World Trade Center exactly as it once stood. What better way to shove our ability to produce whatever we want in the terrorist's faces who took them down. Let's rebuild the WTC as it once was. Tall, proud, and true!!!

A message needs to be projected by what is put where the Twin Towers once stood. That message, succinctly (and without the angry expletives), should be "Business as usual." We will not be broken, we will not cower, we will not evade. Nothing says that better than rebuilding the Towers.

Like all graves it has to be sealed. Rebuilding the Towers is the best way to pay respect to the 9/11 victims. I never had the chance to see the Towers in real but I loved them and want them back. New York has a great name. That name can never be destroyed, the towers can be rebuilt and they must be: to honour those who are dead, and to show that rebuilding means evolution, and with the force of reason, it wins over the lunacy of the fanatics who seek to destroy us. We can change the world now!

Please Note: This petition is meant to provide a forum for this subject alone. It is a petition, not a bulletin board. We will not sanitize controversial remarks if the comments are primarily in support of the petition’s purpose. But off-topic remarks are subject to removal on a case-by-case basis to keep the focus where it belongs. Thank you.

Important Mention: Those who read back over the comments will find that from time to time we have highlighted excerpts to help those who only have time to skim a page get a sense of what people are thinking and feeling. We rarely do that now and it was never a methodical effort, but just a window on public opinion regarding this monumentally important issue. The important thing to know is that no comment matters more than any other. Each one is valued and helps make the case that the public was sidelined on something that mattered so much.

TTA Note: Occasionally a current signature will disappear. When that happens it is because someone who has already signed the petition signs a second time and when the second signature is validated the two are automatically merged and appear in the original chronology. If someone leaves a second signature and comment, it automatically overwrites the earlier placement when the validation link is activated. If it isn’t activated, or it is made using a different email address, there will be duplicate signatures. When we recognize that someone has signed before, we will delete the earlier entry and, if it was verified, verify the new one, since the clear intention is to make the new comment visible. We may decide to manually include the earlier comment at the end of the current message.

Regarding anonymous signatures: Taking a stand using one’s full name is always preferred, but when a name is withheld, the signature and sentiments are still of value. In every case, we have an email address that corresponds with the entry and is kept private.

* Indicates that the signer has not yet activated the validation link, often due to spamblocking software. They are included out of respect for the sincerity of the comments.
