The collapse caused my son, at sophomore in HS at the time, to cry in front of peers. That tells me that he recognized the devastation in spite of his somewhat protected childhood. To rebuild the towers taller than before, with an appropriate memorial to the brave EMS folks, and the poor victims who were in the wrong place at the wrong time, would be spit in the eye of the fanatics who did this. We are at war with fanatics, and we cannot cave in to them.
I fully agree: we must rebuild the twins, at least as tall as before. I’m a building inspector and enforcement officer and would dearly love to help show the terrorists that they have failed and will fail, forever. Born in Manhattan I spent time in The Towers in the past and, although I now live in Oregon, my daughter was in her office in the WFC on 9/11. I am profoundly grateful that she survived and my heart goes out to those whose loved ones did not. Let us rebuild in their honor.

I am a native New Yorker now living in Va. Everytime I visit family I take the Verrazano Bridge and tell my daughter (age 7) that there used to be two big buildings over there on that island. Shes asks — who took them away and when are they going to be put back?
If America is to prove its resilliance in the face of militant Islam’s onslaught, it must rebuild the towers as on operating commercial center. We should do this to prove that freedom and trade are superior to mysticism and death threats.
This is a good idea as long as it is privately funded and not paid for by the government. Oh…and it would be great if they were even bigger than before.
Fall down seven times, get up eight. It is important that we show the world that we have the spirit of winners. If terrorists destroy, we will rebuild out of courage, not memorialize out of fear.
Just look at them. The towers stood as a solid symbol instantly recognizable and identified with NYC and the USA. The freedom tower pales in comparison. It’s no way to show a triumph over terrorism.

We cannot give into terror! Rebuilding can only send the message that freedom cannot be trampled–and that the free cannot be intimidated!
